Degrees of Separation

Here’s an interesting fact about social media that should convince you to take it more seriously – especially as a networking tool.

All of you must have heard of the popular “Six Degrees of Separation” concept that states that the maximum number of steps required to connect to any person in the world, via a friend of a friend in the real world, is generally “6”.

But that number decreases in social media and happens to be one of the main advantages of using it! Research has shown that the number decreases to 4.57 on Facebook and to only 3.44 on Twitter!! In other words, it gets much easier and takes fewer steps to connect to another person via social media, no matter where they are in the entire world, or who they are!! 🙂
